Adviser to Scottish Government Says People Should Wear Masks at Christmas Dinner

An adviser to the Scottish government on COVID-19 has told people that they should wear masks at Christmas dinner during indoor gatherings.

During a press conference, Professor Jason Leitch, Scotland’s Senior Clinical Advisor, said he agreed with World Health Organization guidance that people should wear face coverings inside their own homes during the festive season.

“What they suggest is very sensible. It says, if you are indoors, with people who are not in your household, you should think about wearing a face covering,” said Leitch.

“That’s true in workplaces in Scotland just now. That should also be true when you have your Christmas celebration if you can possibly do it,” he added.

People across the UK will be allowed to mingle with up to two other households over a 5 day period from December 23 to December 27.

However, with the majority of people being locked down under tier 3 restrictions, all bars and restaurants will be closed.

Rumors are also swirling that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to impose a third nationwide lockdown in January (because the first two apparently worked so well).

Earlier this week, the WHO said people meeting their friends and relatives over Christmas should wear masks indoors.

“Gatherings should be held outside if possible, and participants should wear masks and maintain physical distancing. If held indoors, limiting group size and ensuring good ventilation to reduce exposure risk are key,” said the organization.

Quite how people are supposed to eat Christmas dinner while wearing masks wasn’t explained.
