An 'asylum seeker' from Afghanistan has been arrested for the brutal rape of woman at a train station in France, according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded on November 7 at around 6 p.m. in the city of Vichy.
A 45-year-old woman had just purchased tickets when she was approached by a man wearing traditional Afghan clothing.
"She did not understand what this man was telling her given that he spoke in a foreign language," a police source told Actu 17.
The woman made her way to a bathroom, unaware the man was following her.
Before she could lock the door to the toilet, the suspect forced his way in and raped her.
The victim eventually escaped and sought refuge in a nearby bar before going to a hospital for medical treatment, at which time police were alerted about the attack.
Following a review of surveillance footage, investigators were able to track down the suspect.
He was identified as a 32-year-old male from Afghanistan who is present in France as a recognized asylum seeker, according to the source.
The suspect reportedly denied the entire episode before being confronted with video evidence. He then claimed the woman had consensually engaged in sexual acts with him.
He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
