An illegal migrant was arrested for his suspected role in a stabbing and robbery spree just days after he arrived France, according to reports.
A series of attacks unfolded between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Montpellier, a city on the French Riviera.
A 34-year-old man was knifed in the torso during a 'sudden altercation' with two men on the street at around 1 a.m.
The seriously-injured victim was rushed to hospital and treated for a punctured lung. The blade missed his heart by centimeters, Midi Libre reports.
A short time later, a 21-year-old man was attacked by suspects hoping to steal his cell phone.
This victim was rushed to the same hospital suffering from stab wounds to his buttocks, back, and thigh.
A third person was stabbed in the arm and his cell phone stolen by the same suspects, investigators believe.
Police arrested two homeless men at the Arceaux tram stop at around 3:45 a.m.
They were found to be in possession of a collection of stolen cell phones.
One was identified as a 44-year-old 'Parisien,' and the other as a 33-year-old Algerian national illegally present in France.
The Algerian told authorities he had just arrived in the country days before the rampage and reportedly admitted carrying out two of the attacks.
The suspects are expected to appear in court next week.
