African Migrant Rampages on French Tram

An African migrant with a criminal history was convicted following a violent rampage aboard a tram in France last week, according to reports.

The harrowing incident unfolded on August 19 in Clermont-Ferrand, a city in the department of Puy-de-Dôme.

An 18-year-old homeless man from Guinea was caught riding a tram without a ticket, La Montagne reports.

A controller politely asked the man to exit the train, which he refused to do.

During an ensuing confrontation, the African flew into a "surge of violence, a fury," according to a public prosecutor.

The man shoved and punched a transportation worker and grabbed a camera he was using to document the episode.

“At one point, he even bit into a tram bar," one attorney said at a hearing.

"It was all very formidable, very difficult for the controllers to deal with."

Multiple passengers were injured during the melee.

The African was arrested and a trial was held almost immediately.

Instead of acknowledging any wrongdoing during legal proceedings, the African demanded an apology from the transit workers he had attacked.

"He has a real violent behavior that we cannot tolerate," said the prosecutor.

The man, who has a prior conviction, was convicted in court and faces up to six months in prison.
