Albanian Suspect Stabs Own Wife, Friend in France

French police have arrested an Albanian man suspected of stabbing his own wife and a male friend who intervened on her behalf in Tourcoing this week, according to reports.

The incident unfolded inside an apartment in the French city on Wednesday night.

Two couples from Albania were together at the residence when a marital dispute escalated between the visiting pair.

The suspected perpetrator, 34, grabbed a large kitchen knife and attacked his 28-year-old wife, police sources told La Voix du Nord.

The male host reportedly attempted to save the woman but was also slashed.

"The police received a call from a young girl around 8:20 p.m. who warned that her father had just been stabbed at the family home, and that he was seriously injured," Actu 17 reports.

"The 38-year-old victim, injured in the neck, was taken care of by the firefighters and the SMUR then taken to hospital in serious condition, as was the companion of the alleged perpetrator, aged 28 years old, who had also been wounded with a stabbing weapon. The thirty-something has been operated on."

The assailant fled the scene in a car before officers arrived but was located and arrested shortly after and found to be heavily intoxicated.

An investigation has been opened into attempted murder.
