French police have been confronted and ambushed by brazen armed criminals in a series of incidents across the country in recent days, according to reports.
In Marseille, police attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle with three men inside at around 10 o'clock on Monday morning.
Upon approach, a "rear passenger opened the window and pointed a Kalashnikov-type rifle at the officials," Actu17 reports.
Police chased the trio onto the motorway, where the driver accelerated and escaped.
The car was later found in flames in Châteauneuf-les-Martigues, roughly half an hour away from Marseille.
In Seine-et-Marne, police were attacked by a mob of roughly 50 assailants who detonated fireworks and other incendiary devices.
The group had been in an alley shooting a scene for a rap video on Sunday evening when officers attempted to intervene and encountered explosive resistance, Actu17 reports.
Reinforcements were summoned and officers deployed riot-control grenades during the melee.
Video of the battle was shared on social media.
In the Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, police observed a man who appeared to be carrying an object in his pants as he approached a vehicle in the street at approximately 11 p.m. on Thursday night.
When officers in uniform walked up to the suspect, he pulled a handgun and pointed it at them, Actu17 reports.
After a tense stand-off, the officers were able to disarm the man, who was discovered to be an illegal alien from Morocco with a criminal history in France.
Authorities determined the Moroccan had likely intended to steal the car he had advanced upon, but he was soon released with orders to appear in court at a later date.
