Four North African migrants have been arrested by Spanish police after a woman was allegedly gang-raped in a park on Gran Canaria.
The victim, a 36-year-old Irish citizen, says was walking through Agua La Perra park in the municipality of Mogán on Friday when she came across four young men and engaged them in conversation, El Periodico reports.
She says she was concerned about their circumstances and asked if she could help them in any way.
The men allegedly responded to the woman's offer by attacking and raping her before abandoning her in the park.
The victim went to a health center for a medical evaluation and then to a police station to report the crime.
Guardia Civil officers located and arrested the suspects by the end of the weekend.
"Investigation sources have confirmed to OKDIARIO that the four detainees arrived on the island of Gran Canaria by boat and were immediately housed in what are called 'resources' on the island, which are nothing other than the hotel rooms paid for by the Government to house illegal immigrants," OKDIARIO reports.
The men had recently been expelled from the hotel in which they had been placed.
Incredibly, one of the suspects already has a criminal record for a similar sexual assault, sources say.
Since the beginning of 2020, more than 25,000 illegal aliens have flooded the Canary Islands, an archipelago off the coast of Morocco.
Authorities have been raising alarms over 'no-go zones' manifesting where migrants are concentrated in the Canaries.
