A man fought and subdued an illegal migrant who broke into his family's home in France over the weekend, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded at around 10 p.m. on Saturday night in Montpellier, a city on the French Riviera.
A married couple and their daughter returned home from an evening out when they realized someone was inside their residence.
When they opened the front door, they discovered their personal belongings packed in bags and other possessions strewn about.
The 36-year-old father searched the house and encountered a male intruder who threatened to stab him.
During an ensuing struggle, the homeowner managed to overcome the burglar and police were called.
The perpetrator was identified as a homeless Moroccan national who is illegally present in France.
He was found to be in possession of multiple residence permits and a stolen health card.
"Judged on Monday by the judicial court, the defendant was finally sentenced to eighteen months in prison with a warrant of committal," Midi Libre reports.
"It should be noted that upon his release from prison, he will be prohibited from staying on national territory for a period of five years."
Earlier this month, a teenage illegal migrant broke into the home of a 90-year-old woman in the Paris suburbs. He beat his victim and attempted to rape her before she paid him off to leave the premises.
