France: Elderly Woman Brutally Attacked While Feeding Birds in Park

An elderly woman is recovering from serious injuries she sustained when a male suspect attacked her in a park in France as she fed birds this week, according to reports.

The horrifying incident unfolded at around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday in Brest, a port city in the Brittany region.

The woman was feeding birds at dawn in Place Guérin when she was ambushed by a man who has regularly been seen loitering in the area, Le Telegramme reports.

The suspect “came to meet the old lady and then kicked her violently, dragging her to the ground. There, the man continued to kick the elderly person, before bystanders came to help her," a witness told the outlet.

Emergency crews arrived and quickly rushed the victim to hospital where she was treated for severe injuries.

Police arrested the suspect, who was identified only as a 42-year-old male who is "known in the neighborhood."

The brutal assault comes amid a heated debate over violent crime and lawlessness tied to mass migration in France.

Military leaders fired off multiple incendiary letters last year, warning the Macron government of looming "civil war" if strong measures are not taken to regain control of a society spiraling into chaos.
