France: Man Stabbed, Pregnant Girlfriend Attacked by 'Young People'

A man was stabbed and his pregnant girlfriend assaulted by at least four 'young people' in France this week, according to reports.

The disturbing incident unfolded at around 11 p.m. on Monday night in Cavaillon, a commune in the department of Vaucluse.

The man and his partner had arrived to pick up their son from the scene of an altercation when they became the victims of a group of attackers.

Four suspects ranging in age from 16 years old to early twenties set upon the couple, injuring them both.

"The father was stabbed in the hip and his partner, eight months pregnant, was punched," France Bleu reports.

Police apprehended the suspects and launched an investigation into narcotics trafficking.

"Of the four teenagers arrested, the two minors aged 16 and 17 were released. An 18-year-old adult has also been released for the time being," Le Dauphine reports.

"The fourth defendant, a young man in his twenties, suspected of being the perpetrator of the blade strike, must be referred this October 20 to the criminal court of Avignon for a presentation in immediate appearance."

Authorities seized a large quantity of drugs from a residence tied to the suspects.

A heated debate over violent crime and lawlessness tied to mass migration has been raging in France.

Military leaders fired off multiple incendiary letters last year, warning the Macron government of looming "civil war" if strong measures are not taken to regain control of a society spiraling into chaos.
