France: Woman Raped by African Suspect - Elderly Victim Raped Hours Later in Same City

A woman was raped by an African suspect in broad daylight just hours before an elderly female was raped at home by another man in the same jurisdiction in France last week, according to reports.

The first of the horrifying attacks unfolded at around 10 a.m. on January 8 in Le Havre, a port city in the Normandy region.

A woman whose clothes had been torn off sought refuge at a fire station on rue Sergent-Goubin.

“Three witnesses heard the victim scream while she was in the nearby undergrowth,” a source told Actu 17.

“She had been undressed and was struggling. The intervention of these passers-by was decisive."

Firefighters managed to capture and hold the suspect until police arrived.

He was identified as a 29-year-old migrant from Sierra Leone who was already known to authorities.

Hours later, another brutal sexual assault was reported to the same police station.

A woman in her 70s said a man armed with a gun and pepper spray had broken into her home and raped her.

"The suspect told the victim that her deceased son owed him money, that he had just gotten out of prison, and that he was coming to collect the money," a source told Actu 17.

When the woman said she did not have the money to give, the suspect reportedly forced her to perform oral sex on him before fleeing the scene.

On Wednesday morning, a 25-year-old man who was already known to authorities was apprehended while armed with a handgun matching the one used in the crime.

Investigations are ongoing in both cases.

A heated debate over violent crime and lawlessness tied to mass migration has been raging in France.

Military leaders have fired off multiple incendiary letters in recent years, warning the Macron government of looming "civil war" if strong measures are not taken to regain control of a society spiraling into chaos.
