Police in France were attacked by a large mob hurling projectiles while attempting to arrest a teen suspect last week, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded at around 4:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Bron, a commune in the Lyon metro region.
Officers spotted a young male riding a scooter erratically and attempted to pull him over.
"He was driving without a helmet and his license plate was hidden by a piece of tape," a source told Actu 17.
The rider refused to stop and led cops on a dangerous pursuit for several kilometers before losing control of the two-wheeler and abandoning it.
During an ensuing foot chase, an officer was injured while trying to tackle the suspect.
“His colleagues arrive to lend him a hand. This is where the police quickly find themselves surrounded by about twenty hostile individuals who are trying to prevent the arrest,” Actu 17 reports. “Tension mounts and the agents are the target of rocks and glass bottles.”
“Despite everything, they manage to bring the suspect back to the police car. Tear gas and a shot from a defense ball launcher (LBD) are nevertheless necessary to push back the aggressors.”
The suspect was later identified as a 16-year-old male. He was brought before a juvenile judge who decided how to proceed with the case.
The injured officer, who struck his head on an iron door, was taken to hospital and treated for a laceration above his eye.
If we are unwilling to come together and lawfully police our elected leaders then we don’t deserve freedom.
