A man from Afghanistan was arrested for allegedly stabbing a young woman in the head at a bus stop in Germany last week, according to authorities.
The shocking incident unfolded in Hamburg at around 6:20 a.m. on June 23 but has received little coverage.
A 19-year-old woman was preparing to board a bus in the Billstedt district of the city when she was attacked by a male suspect wearing a black hoodie.
"He rammed the knife right into her head," an eyewitness told Bild.
The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities say.
The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended roughly five hours later.
"Extensive investigations had led the specialists of the murder commission (LKA 41) on the trail of a 29-year-old Afghan," police explained in a press release on the day of the crime.
"Officers from the target search (LKA 23) later located him at a vocational school in Ottensen, where they temporarily arrested him around 11:15 a.m. He is due to be brought before a magistrate tomorrow."
Investigators searched the suspect's apartment and secured various pieces of evidence.
They indicated the victim and suspect may have known each other, but said a motive was unclear.
No updates on the condition of the victim were readily available at the time of this writing.
