Swedish authorities arrested a middle-aged man from Iraq who is suspected of raping a pre-teen girl in Stockholm last week, according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded at around 4 p.m. in the capital city.
A 12-year-old girl was raped on Södermalm, an island district in central Stockholm.
"It is a girl under the age of fifteen. She belongs to the Stockholm municipality," prosecutor Frida Vedin told Samnytt.
Reports indicate the attack may have occurred at or near a shop run by the suspect.
On Thursday evening, police apprehended the man in the suburbs, where he resides.
He was identified as a 41-year-old Iraqi national who immigrated to Sweden in 2007.
He is reportedly the father of three children with a woman from his homeland but they are not married.
"The 41-year-old runs a kiosk on Södermalm in Stockholm together with a woman in her 50s. It is in or in connection with that kiosk that the rape is suspected of having been committed," Samnytt reports.
The prosecutor has decline to comment on whether the victim and suspect knew each other prior to the alleged attack.
An investigation is ongoing.
