Migrant Sets Fire in Prison Cell to Avoid Deportation

An illegal migrant set a fire inside his holding cell at a detention center in France this week in an effort to avoid deportation, according to reports.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday evening in the city of Grenoble.

A man was arrested under suspicion of committing a robbery and during processing, officers discovered he had already been ordered to leave French territory.

“But he still managed to set fire to his cell, and more precisely to the blankets and the plastic mattress, which caused a significant release of smoke," Le Dauphine reports.

"The fire alarm went off shortly before 6 p.m. and the start of the fire could be extinguished before the arrival of the firefighters, but they had to evacuate the 150 people who were then in the building and take care of fifteen people, including fourteen police officers, four of whom - who had been responsible for removing the other eight detainees from their cells - had been particularly exposed to smoke inhalation."

The suspected arsonist was transported to Grenoble-Alpes University Hospital to undergo a medical evaluation.

Other prisoners were transferred to a nearby police station while the six-story building was ventilated and inspected for damage.

Migrants setting fires at asylum centers in their host countries has become a common tactic used to force relocation, as Infowars Europe has often reported.
