Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has announced the next phase of his administration's crackdown on illegal migration – a rapid escalation of deportations.

Government figures for the month of August reveal a 65% drop in boat landings by migrants on Italian shores from the same period in 2017, according to Il Giornale, indicating Salvini's aggressive approach to mitigating the crisis in the Mediterranean Sea on behalf of his country is working.

"Now we are working to increase expulsions, something that those who preceded me unfortunately did not," Salvini said, asserting that while his predecessors would have cited the latest data as a full solution, it is just the beginning for him.

"'We stopped the landings, the emergency is over,' the Democratic party would say. With our government we are demonstrating that we can do more and better," he continued. "I don't know what the person before me was doing with his time."

Salvini, who has held landmark meetings in Africa since taking office in June, also announced that new bi-lateral agreements are being solidified with some migrants' countries of origin, which are intended to facilitate a smoother deportation process in many cases.

"Italy must be the protagonist of the process of stabilization of the Mediterranean," he said earlier this week. "The incursions of others who have economic interests must not prevail over the common good that is peace."

At least 7 out of 10 migrants who cross from Africa to Europe are merely 'searching for a better life' - not fleeing wartorn homelands, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

While campaigning for office, Salvini vowed to deport 500,000 migrants from Italy during his tenure, a promise that many of his constituents would likely hope to see fulfilled.

"There are half a million irregular migrants in Italy," he said in January. "All of them need to be sent home."

A top official in the European Commission has declared that the EU superstate is potentially facing its demise as nationalist-populist movements ascend to power across the continent.

Budget Commissioner Günther Oettinger issued the warning during an address at an event in Brussels on Tuesday, according to Politico.

"In my view, the project is in mortal danger," Oettinger said. "Some within Europe want to weaken it or even destroy it — Poland, Hungary, Romania, the government of Italy."

Oettinger, who belongs to German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union party, also cited outside economic pressure from Russia, Turkey, and the "clever Chinese" as critical issues facing the bloc.

Support for the Union does seem to be fracturing, as even its most prominent proponents are facing diminishing popularity, including Chancellor Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

Macron has suffered the loss of two ministers from his cabinet in the span of just one week, and recent polling found that 59 percent of French voters are dissatisfied with his performance.

In Germany, Merkel struggled to cobble together a governing coalition after last year's elections and barely survived a recent coup within her government, and is now facing a new crisis as anti-mass migration protests rage in Chemnitz and other German cities.

The EU could be dealt another heavy blow when Swedes head to the polls on September 9th, where the euroskeptic Sweden Democrats are expected to garner huge support while the governing Social Democratic Party potentially faces its worst showing in 100 years.

Professor Matthew Goodwin, a Senior Fellow at Chatham House, examined the broad implications of the Swedish elections as they reflect the explosion of national populism in a lengthy, detailed Twitter thread on Tuesday.

"Take a look around now – Brexit, Wilders, Alternative for Germany – and you get a sense not only of how many observers in the 1990s 'end of history' zeitgeist underestimated nationalism but also how quickly (radical) political change can occur," Goodwin wrote. "It's not that national populism reflects an abandonment of democracy. It reflects the fact that people want a different conception of democracy. One where 'the people' get 'more voice' while 'elites' get less. This is a legitimate request."

German officials are ending a criminal investigation into the alleged rape of 10-year-old boy by classmates from Syria and Afghanistan, saying the suspected perpetrators are too young to prosecute, according to reports.

The story recently sent shockwaves through Germany when local media revealed the young child had allegedly been the victim of a premeditated, violent sexual assault carried out by three migrant students during a field trip to Kröchlendorff Castle.

"We f**k you today," the victim was told before later being raped by a 10-year-old Afghan boy, who was assisted by 11-year-old accomplices from Afghanistan and Syria, Berliner Zeitung reported.

Two additional classmates also reportedly witnessed the episode, but only when the victim's friend shared the story with a teacher over a week later was any action taken by authorities.

Officials now say there is little they can do to penalize the suspected perpetrators due to their young age.

The accused rapist's collaborators have reportedly been transferred to different schools, while the main culprit may receive schooling alternatives as he can "no longer attend normal school."

"We want to exhaust all legal possibilities that the main perpetrator does not attend regular school, but experiences special schooling," said a spokeswoman for the Berlin School Administration.

The main perpetrator allegedly had a prior history of beating up and intimidating classmates, and Berliner Zeitung reports the school is in a "social hotspot," known for frequent violence and where even very young students have "little respect for teachers, talking in fecal language."

News of the case comes amid heated protests in Chemnitz, Germany, where residents have been voicing their outrage over mass migration in the wake of the death of a local carpenter, who is suspected to have been murdered by Iraqi and Syrian migrants.

Two 10-year-old Afghan and Syrian migrants have been expelled from school after allegedly raping a 10-year-old German boy before the summer holiday, reports the German media.

The migrants had repeatedly threatened the boy with rape between classes at the Schloss Kröchlendorff school before finally committing the crime, according to the school's representative.

"I am appalled by this shocking case. Everything must be done to support the injured child and the family, " Education Senator Sandra Scheeres told BILD.

A friend of the victim had alerted the school authorities and police to the incident, and the migrant boys were then expelled from the school.

It's not clear what further legal action was taken against them.

"All forces have worked together here to work up the case: school psychology, school management, youth welfare office and police. None of the culprits goes to school anymore," Senator Scheeres said.

"For this we have exhausted all legal options for the two eleven-year accomplices (one Syrian, one Afghan), meanwhile other schools in other districts were found."

Locals from around Chemnitz, Germany, slammed mainstream media and politicians who have smeared anti-mass migration protesters as "Nazis" and "far-right extremists" during a heated town hall.

Present at the meeting, which was aired live by NTV, were Chemnitz mayor Barbara Ludwig and Saxony's minister-president Michael Kretschmer.

One after another, residents voiced their frustration with the radical transformation of their city by mass migration, the negative effects of which have pushed the citizenry to the boiling point after the death of Daniel Hillig, who is suspected to have been killed by Iraqi and Syrian migrants.

“I’m sick of the fact that when Germans dare to say a non-German committed a crime, they are immediately condemned as Nazis or ring-wing extremists,” said a woman who identified herself as a nurse, according to a translation.

After pointing out that both the mayor's and minister’s salaries are funded by German taxpayers, she blasted the government for diverting billions of tax dollars and much of its attention to migrants, while basic amenities are becoming less accessible to native Germans.

“That’s why you have to understand why people are taking to the streets now,” she said. “I was in the middle of the demonstrators, they were people like you and me... they are kindergarten teachers, doctors, lawyers; these are all people who work in normal jobs, who care about Chemnitz, who are worried and say they refuse to let their city be taken over.”

“We want to go into the city without fear.”

She went on to contradict the media’s portrayal that "made it look like a civil war had broken out” in Chemnitz, asserting that at no time did she feel unsafe during demonstrations and that the press was highlighting a small fringe element which had exploited the protest for nefarious purposes, such as performing Nazi salutes on camera.

“I would give you politicians some advice: Please stop speaking in half-truths, this drives people into the wrong camps. Honesty should be on your agenda,” the nurse said directly to Minister Kretschmer. “And the journalism - I’m not sure who is directing it, but there is no objectivity in the reporting anymore.”

A gentleman who identified himself as "Knupf" certified the nurse's claims, saying, "the media coverage has been a catastrophe."

"My sister called me from England. She thought we had all turned into fascist, racist hordes that march through Chemnitz and hunt foreigners."

Mr. Knupf argued that concerned, decent Germans are consistently smeared as "Nazis and racists" any time they peacefully and legally express their frustrations with the direction of their country – particularly when they present a united front, citing the PEGIDA movement and Alternative for Germany party as examples.

He said that a slander-and-silence technique gradually pushes the option for rational debate off the table.

"We can't say that normal citizens who were showing their dissatisfaction are all Nazis," Knupf said. "The 'raging citizens' had something to say; none of it was taken seriously."

Mr. Knupf concluded by slamming Mayor Ludwig for the adversarial position she has taken with a large segment of her constituency in the past week.

"The fact that you did not defend the citizens of Chemnitz is insulting," Knupf said, standing just inches from Ludwig. "Many in this city are resentful of this fact. They really resent it."

Mayor Ludwig has issued a "state of emergency" for Chemnitz, openly signaling to leftists to stand up against the "right-wing" to protect the liberal establishment.

"I’m convinced that it’ll mobilize forces as we see today that very clearly show that we won’t allow for the right and right-wing thinking to undermine the state," Ludwig said.

French President Emmanuel Macron lost his second Cabinet member in a week on Tuesday, after Sports Minister Laura Flessel announced she was stepping down for personal reasons.

Flessel, a former Olympic champion in fencing, followed former Environment Minister Nicolas Hulot in quitting the French government. According to opinion polls, the two ranked among Macron's most popular ministers, all while the president's own popularity continues to hit new lows.

However, Flessel's resignation didn't appear to be in quite as much bad blood as that of Hulot, as she said she would remain "a loyal team member with the president and prime minister."

Hulot, by contrast, announced during a live radio interview last week that he was resigning out of despair over the government's hollow environmental commitments. The remarks reportedly enraged the French president, who famously pledged to "make our planet great again" after US President Donald Trump quit the Paris climate deal.

Flessel announced her resignation just hours before Macron was slated to unveil his Cabinet reshuffle.

Later on Tuesday Macron's office announced that Flessel would be replaced by Roxana Maracineanu, a silver medalist in backstroke at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and a world champion in 1998.

The environment post, meanwhile, was handed to parliament speaker Francois de Rugy, a former Green party lawmaker who jumped ship to Macron's Republic on the Move party last year. Known for his pragmatic approach to politics, de Rugy earned Macron's trust by backing the president's decision to delay the phasing out of nuclear energy in France.

The French president hopes that a rejig will give his reform drive such much needed new energy. He returned from his summer holiday this week reeling from a bodyguard scandal and slower recorded growth than had been initially projected.

An opinion poll published on Tuesday found that just 31 percent of respondents were happy with Macron's performance during the first 16 months of his presidency, while support had eroded across all age groups on both the left and the right.

It means Macron's approval rating is lower than that of his predecessor Francois Hollande at the same stage of his presidency. The Socialist leader went on to grow so unpopular that he became the first president of the Fifth Republic not seek re-election.

Chemnitz, Germany, has become a flashpoint for a rebellion against mass migration and open borders, as thousands of outraged citizens have been protesting the stabbing death of a German man involving migrant suspects.

Following the death of 35-year-old Daniel Hillig, a local carpenter who leaves behind a widow, migrants from Syria and Iraq were apprehended, according to details in a leaked arrest warrant.

The Iraqi, aged 22, has an extensive list of prior convictions and had been facing deportation for some time, Kronen Zeitung reports.

Some unconfirmed reports indicate Hillig may have been attempting to stop the sexual assault of a woman when he was attacked.

Backlash has been on-going and growing over the past week, with thousands of Germans marching in the streets, calling for Angela Merkel's resignation and blasting the "Lügenpresse" for not reporting the truth about how migration is radically transforming Germany.

Chemnitz mayor Barbara Ludwig has declared a "state of emergency" for the city, stating, "We won’t allow for the right and right-wing thinking to undermine the state."

International media has roundly condemned the protests in Chemnitz as an uprising of the "far-right" and "neo-Nazis," however many reports and video evidence contradict these claims, indicating that a fringe element is vastly outnumbered by "average" German citizens who have reached their breaking point.

"I can't go into the city anymore with my grandchildren," one man said. "My wife, my daughter-in-law went to the city not too long ago, and in front of the cops, Arab citizens - young men, well-dressed, stylish with a mobile phone - went past her: 'Wanna f**k? Wanna f**k?' And I ask myself, is that normal?"

"If I did that four years ago, they would have taken me away as a sexual offender. . . Why do you dismiss this?"

The grandfather also claimed that protests were fueled in part after an "Arab" migrant spit on a grave and said, "Sh***y German," and was subsequently beaten up by bystanders.

As others voiced support for the grandfather's claims, another man chimed in, saying, "As a German, you go to jail if you can't pay your taxes, and such people remain free. This is incomprehensible."

"You always reverse the facts. Everyone is a 'Nazi' who is angry about this, about the unacceptable conditions in this country."

Protests in Chemnitz are expected to continue this week.

A giant balloon depicting London Mayor Sadiq Khan in a yellow bikini has been launched over Parliament Square on Saturday by pro-Trump demonstrators.

Organizers had raised more than $75,000 to create the blimp in a protest against Khan’s policies, which have resulted in record crime waves including stabbings and acid attacks.

President Trump has repeatedly criticized London's first Muslim mayor over his handling of security and rampant crime.

The balloon is also a jab at Khan's approval of a giant balloon depicting President Trump as a baby during Trump's UK visit in July.

More cars were torched overnight and anti-migration candidates were attacked at a rally in Sweden as tensions run high entering the final days before critical elections, according to reports.

Up to 25 vehicles were damaged or destroyed in approximately 10 different car fires around the country, Fria Tider reports, with a large conflagration taking place in Trollhättan, as well as Malmö, Helsingborg, Trelleborg, Kalmar and Vellinge.

Last night's blazes are the latest in a string of similar incidents that have unfolded in recent weeks, including a series of seemingly organized firebombings in mid-August which Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven likened to a "coordinated... military operation."

In Uddevalla, parliamentary candidates from the nationalist-populist Alternative for Sweden (AfS) party were reportedly attacked by leftists and migrants during a town square meeting and rally.

"Representatives of Alternative for Sweden were attacked by an immigrant gang when the party held a square meeting in Uddevalla on Thursday afternoon," Fria Tider reports. "The parliamentary candidates Per Sefastsson and Markus Jonsson were beaten with fists."

Jonsson asserts that a vehicle containing AfS members was attacked during an emergency exit from the location.

"One of my colleagues from Alternative for Sweden [was] attacked by an immigrant youth who attended the meeting and was screaming and shouting over the meeting," Jonsson told RT. "They threw eggs at our vehicle when we left the scene. They ran after us, and when we had to stop at a red light, they kicked at the car."

A burning cigarette was also thrown in the face of an AfS representative, according to police.

AfS is scheduled to hold a rally on Friday in migrant-heavy Gothenburg, where police have identified many "vulnerable areas" - also known as "no-go zones."

Dutch MP and anti-Islamization figurehead Geert Wilders flirted with grave danger after an alleged assassination attempt was thwarted and a bounty was placed on his head, reports indicate.

A man believed to be Pakistani was arrested this week after posting a video to Facebook announcing his arrival in The Hague with the apparent intention of killing Wilders, according to authorities.

Wilders tweeted that Dutch counterterrorism officials notified him regarding the plot and even attached an article from media outlet NOS describing the matter in detail.

"I was told by NCTb this morning that a man on Facebook said in a video that he arrived in NL for the purpose of killing me," Wilders wrote. "Fortunately, he is arrested."

"It is madness that this is happening over a drawing contest and that it rains death threats."

The man is 26-years-old and delivered his brief manifesto in Urdu at the central train station in The Hague, according to NOS.

Also, reports and supporting video evidence have also surfaced claiming a Pakistani cricket player has placed a bounty on Wilders' life amounting to roughly $23,500.

"On Twitter, a Pakistani cricketer announced that he put about 20,000 euros on the head of 'blasphemer' Geert Wilders," reports NOS. "The player is Khalid Latif, who last year was banned from playing five years due to match fixing in the Pakistani cricket competition."

Wilders advertised plans to host a "Draw Muhammad" cartoon contest at his party's chambers in Dutch Parliament some time this fall, and has received an increased slew of death threats since the announcement.

Outspoken Brexiteer Nigel Farage stood down from his position as leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in 2016, shortly after the Brexit referendum, and continues to serve as an MEP, though he will lose his seat in the European Parliament once Britain withdraws from the EU.

Nigel Farage is considering running in the 2020 London Mayoral election, claiming he has been encouraged to stand for the post by a “group of people” as it would provide him with a platform to voice his political views.

In an interview with The Financial Times on Wednesday, Farage insisted that the Tory Party is “very actively aware” that he would push them down to third place in the election if he were to stand, describing them as “afraid” of such a prospect.

Over the course of his political career, Farage has run for a seat in parliament seven times, to no avail, but an ally of the hardline Brexiteer said he would easily defeat the Tories in the mayoral election.

“The three Tory candidates are so poor… no one expects any of them to win, if you have televised hustings it would just come down to Nigel versus Sadiq [Khan],” a Farage ally told The Financial Times, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The Conservatives are set to pick their candidate to stand in the election next month, but all three have limited experience in the highest levels of politics and are quite obscure, with two of them currently representing the party in the London Assembly and the final candidate, Joy Morrissey, serving as an Ealing councilor.

Farage has repeatedly clashed with incumbent London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who is expected to stand for re-election in 2020, dismissing his remarks against US President Donald Trump’s immigration policy and accusing him of creating a “mess” in Britain’s capital.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sang the praises of his "hero" Matteo Salvini at their highly-anticipated summit in Milan, asserting the safety of Europe hinges upon the Italian interior minister's unwavering commitment to border security.

Declaring that Salvini has undertaken a "historic mission" to be "the first Mediterranean politician that seeks to stop migrants," Orbán urged his counterpart to remain steadfast in the face of immense pressure from open-borders globalists.

"The security of the European Union depends on Salvini’s success and we urge him not to flinch," Orbán said. "Hungary has shown that we can stop migrants on land. Salvini has shown migrants can be stopped at sea. We thank him for protecting Europe’s borders."

"There are two sides at the moment in Europe. One is led by Macron, who is supporting migration. The other one is supported by countries who want to protect their borders. Hungary and Italy belong to the latter."

Orbán and Salvini also agree that migrants already in Europe must deported, regardless of Brussels' demands.

"We must send migrants back to their countries," Orbán said. "Brussels says we cannot do it. They also had said it was impossible to stop migrants on land, but we did it."

Salvini welcomed Orbán's support and their budding alliance, asserting, "We are close to a historic turning point for the future of Europe."

"We want to change Europe’s commission," Salvini said. "We want to protect our borders. We are going to fight pro-migrant policies supported by Macron and Soros."

Orbán, who has stood as a bulwark against rampant migration into Europe, finds himself increasingly surrounded by like-minded allies, such as Salvini, who are rising to power as nationalist populism sweeps the continent.

"Me and Salvini, we seem to share the same destiny," Orbán told reporters in Milan. "He is my hero."

A public German broadcaster declined to cover the manhunt for a migrant police believe murdered a doctor despite the fact that the story was covered by international news.

Tagesschau, which is taxpayer-funded, claimed the story “was of no national or international importance," although Deutsche Welle, another public outlet, said the seemingly-unprovoked murder occurred in a town of only 60,000 now considered a "crime hotspot."

"Violence in medical practices has occurred several times in Germany in recent years," reported Deutsche Welle, highlighting the national importance. "In 2016 a pensioner shot an orthodontist in a Berlin clinic."

"And in 2015, a 44-year-old man killed his psychiatrist with eight shots in a Saarbrücken practice."

The decision to not cover the story was so controversial that Tagesschau’s editor-in-chief, Dr. Kai Gniffke, was forced to respond - but his response only fueled further debate given that the blog entry had at least 145 comments.

He wrote in part (and you can read his full statement here):

In the news, we report on things of social, national or international relevance. Things that are important to the majority of the approximately 83 million Germans. We can not report every murder case. I think that most of our critics would go along with it. Where opinions differ, the question is whether we should report if the suspect is an asylum seeker. In my view, we should do that when asylum seekers are disproportionately involved in homicides. That's not the case, as far as we can research it. That's why we decided against reporting.

While some applauded Gniffke’s decision, the comment section was largely critical of Tagesschau.

In particular, critics said Gniffke’s response illustrated that Tagesschau was more concerned with filtering information than providing neutral coverage.

“Your reasoning does not convince me,” wrote one critic. “Even the detail shows that you were aware of what you are doing by failing to report.”

“Of course every journalist has the right to represent a political opinion, but first and foremost, the reader expects neutral coverage.”

“And unfortunately, over the past few years, I have been experiencing again and again that public-law institutions are trying to avoid important news that concerns politically-explosive issues,” he added. “There is a growing danger of at least censorship.”

Others pointed out that Tagesschau stood alone in its decision to not report on the murder, while international bureaus like the Associated Press covered the news.

The murder on Aug. 16 occurred at the doctor's own office when, according to police, a 26-year-old man allegedly entered without an appointment and attacked the doctor and an assistant.

"He then fled the scene, prompting a manhunt involving more than 20 police cars, helicopters and a canine unit, and was soon caught," reported Deutsche Welle. "Police identified the suspect as a man from Somalia."

"They said he left the knife behind at the scene."

UK police are hunting for a migrant man suspected in the double stabbing murder of a mother and her daughter, who were also migrants, according to reports.

Janbaz Tarin, 21, is suspected of killing both his former lover, Raneem Oudeh, 22, and her mother, Khaola Saleem, 49, in Solihull, England, on Monday.

British media indicate that Tarin hails from either Afghanistan or Syria, and that both Oudeh and Saleem are from Syria, but have lived in the UK for some time.

"I thought it was foxes screaming," one neighbor said in her account of the killing. "She was absolutely screaming her head off. The man wasn't speaking English, that's for sure. He shouted something and then ran off."

Neighbors also say the women had contacted police on multiple occasions to express concerns about Tarin, who was allegedly harassing Oudeh after a break-up, but "they weren't taken seriously."

Oudeh was the mother of a 15-month-old child, a neighbor told Birmingham Live.

A Facebook account appearing to belong to Tarin has advertised pro-Syrian, pro-Palestinian content.

West Midlands Police urge anyone with information regarding Janbaz Tarin's whereabouts to contact them immediately.
