Police in the U.K. are investigating an incident in which a 10-year-old girl was jumped by a gang of children who attempted to set her on fire, according to reports.

The "completely unprovoked attack" unfolded in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon as the child and a friend walked through a park in Wirral, authorities say.

"The girl had been with a female friend in New Ferry park on New Chester Road at around 1:15 p.m. when it is reported she was assaulted by a gang of males and females aged around 12-13," a Merseyside Police spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo. "It is also believed one of the group tried to unsuccessfully burn the girl’s coat.

"Both girls also had a drink thrown over them."

The victim was left shaken and suffered minor injuries to her face.

"This is vile behavior," said one local parent in response to the assault. "These monsters need [to be] punished, never mind saying they are only 10 and 12 years old, they are old enough to know what they are doing."

Another resident expressed her shock, saying, "What is it coming to when young kids can’t go to a park, when we get nasty horrible little rats thinking they can go round abusing others?"

Police say they are reviewing CCTV footage and are requesting anyone with information to come forward.

“This was a completely unprovoked attack and was a horrible incident for the young girl and her friend to endure," said Detective Inspector Darren Taylor.

"We are carrying out enquiries in the local area and I would ask anyone who was in the park or the surrounding area who saw anybody or anything suspicious to contact us."

Despite new figures showing the daily number of COVID-19 deaths in the UK dropping below those from road accidents, the government is still refusing to accelerate the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

The average number of daily deaths now stands at 25 a day with COVID cases dropping 94 per cent from the peak. On Monday, the UK recorded just four total deaths.

“By comparison, the UK records an average of around five deaths from road accidents daily,” reports the Telegraph.

The government has continually insisted it will prioritize “data not dates” in deciding when the measures should be relaxed, although that argument seems to immediately dissipate when the data favors re-opening quicker.

“We’ve been told regularly, that we are following the data, not the dates, but sadly, it seems to be the other way around,” said Conservative MP Pauline Latham. “Derbyshire there are huge swathes of villages and towns, that have no Covid whatsoever, and that’s repeated over all sorts of areas of the country.”

“We do need to start getting businesses back to normal. We need to get hospitality businesses fully functioning, and using their indoor spaces,” she added.

Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed that lockdown restrictions and not vaccine rates were to thank for the country’s plummeting COVID cases, despite data showing cases were already falling before each successive lockdown.

Many took this as a sign that Johnson will be pressured into placing the country on lockdown yet again in the Autumn if there is another wave of the virus.

The government’s timetable for re-opening promises an end to all restrictions and social distancing measures on June 21, although events are already planned after this date that will require limited attendance, social distancing and masks.

Many fear that the restrictions will never truly be lifted given that the precedent has now been set that the state can place the entire population under de facto house arrest at the drop of a hat.

Following a series of disappointments that has seen a string of would-be successors to Chancellor Angela Merkel rise and fall, Germany's Christian Democratic Union, the dominant party in the country's ruling coalition, has finally chosen a successor to the long-ruling Merkel.

On Monday, Conservative Armin Laschet put an end to a messy standoff over the future of Germany's most powerful political party when he clinched the nomination to run for the chancellorship, signaling that, after 16 years of Merkel's centrism, Germany might be heading in a more conservative direction.

Laschet, who, as leader of the CDU, is firmly entrenched within the party establishment, fended off an upstart challenge by Markus Soder, the minister-president of Bavaria and leader of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria, which serves in a ruling coalition with the CDU.

With rising fears about the liberal "Greens" potentially stealing power away from the German political establishment, Bloomberg noted that By picking the 60-year-old moderate, Germany’s conservatives are "foregoing Soeder’s greater electoral appeal and making a potentially risky bet that Laschet will be able to lift his flagging poll numbers, even as the Greens close in."

Outside the ruling coalition, the Greens already have the biggest presence in the Bundestag following the parliamentary vote in 2019.

In a statement acknowledging Laschet's victory, Soeder - never one to skimp on the dramatic flourishes - proclaimed that "the die is cast".

"The die is cast: Armin Laschet will be the chancellor candidate of the Union," Markus Soeder, leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Bavarian sister party of Laschet's Christian Democrats (CDU) told a news conference.

"The CDU met yesterday and decided. We accept that, and I respect that," Soeder said, ending a damaging rift in the CDU/CSU alliance known as 'the Union.' "I called Armin Laschet and congratulated him. I told him that we as the CSU accept it. We offered him our full support. We will support him without a grudge and with all our power."

As for the Greens, Annalena Baerbock, a 40-year-old political scientist and foreign-policy expert, was named the party’s first official chancellor candidate on Monday. She called out the conservatives for all the "mudslinging" that has taken place during the contest so far.

As analysts try to parse what all of this means for the ruling CDU, Bloomberg pointed out that the fact that Germany’s dominant party wound up in such a mess with just five months to go to polling day is a testament to the difficulties of moving past the 66-year-old Merkel, who has governed for 16 years and dominated the CDU for a generation.

While it’s still on track to be the biggest party in the next parliament in the latest polls, the CDU-CSU is heading for its worst-ever result in a federal election and is facing a challenge by the Greens to become Germany’s strongest force. That leaves Laschet with little time and little margin for error.

UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer was kicked out of a pub in Bath by an irate landlord who tore into him for supporting the Conservative government’s economy-wrecking lockdown policy.

Starmer’s visit to the Raven didn’t go as planned as owner Rod Humphreys launched into a verbal tirade about the idiocy of COVID-19 restrictions while asserting he was “incandescent” with rage.

The landlord showed Starmer a chart while making the point that the average age of a COVID death was 82 years and 3 months compared to the average age of death in the UK which is 81 years.

“Do you understand we have fucked our economy because old people are dying,” said Humphreys before going on to point out that the UK had a similar total death rate in 2008.

“You’ve failed me – I’ve been a Labour voter my entire life,” Humphreys told Starmer as the politician tried to skulk away.

“You have failed to be the opposition, you have failed to ask whether lockdown was functioning, thousands of people have died because you have failed to do your job and ask the real questions.”

Humphreys then scolded Starmer for failing to oppose children wearing masks in schools when there’s “never been any evidence for it.”

A second clip shows Humphreys demanding Starmer leave his pub after the politician and his security team tried to enter the premises.

The Labour Party is supposed to act as the “opposition” to the ruling government, and yet it has voted with the Tories on every single COVID-19 lockdown policy, at some points arguing that the restrictions should have been even more severe.

Starmer subsequently addressed the incident on Twitter with a smarmy tweet that encouraged people to register to vote.

Register to vote for a party that supports the exact same policies as the ruling government?

Residents of a town in France staged protests against illegal aliens being allowed to squat in a home owned by local winegrowers, according to reports.

Multiple families from Bosnia have been illegally living in a house in the commune of Arcs-sur-Argens for months, despite court orders to vacate the premises.

The squatters have ignored directives, but authorities claim they can do nothing to enforce them because of a government decree to suspend all evictions until at least May 31 due to the 'COVID crisis.'

The home was left vacant after the owner passed away last year.

Neighbors soon called the heir, Jean-Philippe Victor, to inform him the house had been broken into and occupied.

"We are powerless and we have no response from our authorities, from the people who govern us, from the people who lead us. There is a court decision, it is not applied, we do not understand," Victor told BFMTV.

"We still had the furniture, the family papers in the house, we don't know what happened to them. I saw that they have put in new furniture. They put my mother's old furniture outside in the garden. In the rain. My heart breaks for what it looks like inside."

The municipality has reportedly offered to house the illegal occupants elsewhere, but they refused.

A large group of local residents, led by populist politicians, staged a protest on Saturday in support of the Victor family.

"The judge ordered, in 2020, the eviction of the families installed illegally in our house and the prefect did not execute it. He did nothing," Victor said during the demonstration.

"So we are all here to show that we will not let go. That it can happen to any of us and that it is not normal that we are the ones paying the price while they are protected."

Concerns about the AstraZeneca vaccine in Sweden have prompted refusals to vaccinate, leading to doses being discarded in the dustbin, the newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported, adding that this increases both the costs of the inoculation campaign and the workload on healthcare staff.

Sweden temporarily suspended the use of Astra Zeneca's vaccine following a spate of reports of serious side effects, including a rare combination of blood clots and haemorrhages amid low platelet counts. While the vaccination later resumed, a growing hesitancy among the population has ensued.

Health centres around the country have experienced a growing reluctance to use Astra Zeneca's vaccine. Some people refuse to leave the premises unless they are offered another vaccine, whereas others miss their visits or turn back at the doorstep, Dagens Nyheter reported.

"Many health centres feel that it takes a lot of time and effort. This makes the vaccination process slower, and we have been forced to discard a number of vaccine doses", Roger Larsson, chief physician in the Dalarna Region, said. "It feels very unfortunate. We want to use everything. It is a bad risk calculation not to take the vaccine."

To avoid vaccines going to waste, healthcare staff are calling people on reserve lists, but it is not always easy, as some patients live a long distance from the nearest health centre.

At Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, staff is also being forced to throw away doses after patient refusals, and the problem has increased over the past two weeks, according to chief physician Maria Taranger.

"Some say no even before the visit, others turn at the door. The staff spends a lot of time making people calm and safe, but it is not always possible. We have a collective responsibility to stop the infection. It is of course voluntary to take the vaccine, but there is a social responsibility. You should also feel safe with the assessment that our authorities make. It cuts to the very heart when doses have to be discarded. We work like hell to find other patients who can take the doses", Taranger said.

Anxiety or reluctance towards the AstraZeneca vaccine can be seen from north to south, Dagens Nyheter emphasised. According to Västerbotten Region vaccine coordinator Ronny Lestander, healthcare workers have to spend a lot of time explaining everything about the AstraZeneca vaccine on every occasion.

In mid-March, the use of Astra Zeneca's vaccine in Sweden was suspended. This followed a number of reports of suspected serious side effects, a rare combination of blood clots and haemorrhages amid low platelet counts. The vaccination was later resumed on 25 March, but the Swedish Public Health Agency recommends that the vaccine only be given to people aged 65 years and over.

So far, AstraZeneca has been a staple of the Swedish vaccination programme. According to the Public Health Authority, 20.4 percent of Swedes have received at least one vaccine dose, while 7.9 percent have received both doses.

Last week, Sweden's vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström said that Stockholm is in talks with Russia to procure the Sputnik V vaccine as soon as this summer.

Almost a quarter of the UK workforce wants to stay at home FOREVER, according to a survey conducted by Deloitte.

The London Telegraph reports that around 25% never want to go back to their place of work ever again, noting that the figure equates to 7.5 million people who would be happy to stay at home and work on their own for the rest of their lives.

Only slightly more, 28% say they do not want to work at home any more and want to get back to their offices or other work environments as soon as possible.

Most people, 42% said they want to see some sort of balance, spending at least two days a week working at home.

The reasoning behind the desire for one in four to stay at home for good was being ‘more efficient’ and ‘more relaxed’, as well as not having to commute and saving time.

In other words, 25% can’t be bothered moving and interacting with other people, and are perfectly happy staying at home alone in their jogging pants until they retire and then stay at home in their jogging pants until they die.

As we have previously highlighted, almost half of Brits, including a majority of women, say they will struggle to revert back to normal life after lockdown, with only 37 per cent saying they would not miss anything about lockdown.

A similar poll conducted by the London Times found that a “significant proportion” of Brits enjoyed lockdown.

Another separate opinion poll conducted last month by YouGov found that over half of Brits said they would miss “many” or “some” aspects of the lockdown.

The figures once again underscore how a majority of people appear to be utterly oblivious to the precedent that lockdown has created, handing government the power to completely restrict basic civil liberties on a whim.

A court in Iceland ruled that forcing all arriving travelers to quarantine only in government-approved facilities is illegal, according to reports.

Until recently, anyone landing in the island nation from a 'high-risk' region was ordered to stay at a local hotel for either five days or until a second negative COVID test was produced.

However, the Reykjavík District Court reviewed seven cases challenging the rule and determined it to be against the law.

"What weighed heavily in the ruling was the definition of a quarantine facility in the disease prevention law. That definition implies ... that such a facility is meant for people who have no place to stay in Iceland," the Iceland Monitor reports.

Subsequently, all travelers quarantined at the high-end Fosshótel Reykjavík, where obligatory stays have been provided at taxpayer cost, were informed they were free to leave if they had access to 'suitable' accommodations as an alternative.

At least 12 people immediately exited the hotel, according to Morgunblaðið, but many more stayed.

"As things currently stand, the response to the ruling will be to inform those who are currently staying in quarantine hotels that they are free to finish their quarantine elsewhere if they have access to a suitable facility," the government said in a statement.

"However, the epidemiological authorities wish to respectfully ask those who are in quarantine at quarantine hotels to finish their quarantine there, since this is the best way to limit the spread of Covid-19."

A legal appeal was quickly dismissed by the Icelandic appellate court and the government issued new guidelines for "appropriate housing" for post-travel quarantines.

The United States and Norway signed a revised deal on Friday allowing the US military to set up its own facilities on Norwegian soil, according to an announcement from Norway.

Before coming into effect, the agreement will have to be ratified by Norway's parliament. In February, US B-1 strategic bombers arrived in Norway to conduct training missions, making this the first time American planes have operated in the Scandinavian country.

US armed forces will be permitted to install facilities at three airfields and a naval base. However, Norway specified that the deal does not provide for the establishment of military bases in the country.

The development comes after the United States carried out its first training mission in Norway with its B-1 strategic bombers in February.

The manoeuvre was intended to test warplanes in the north and improve their interoperability with allies.

Russian Foreign Ministry previously said that Oslo's intention to deploy US strategic bombers at its airbase near Trondheim was seen as another step toward increasing military activity in the region.

Nearly half of Brits, including a majority of women, say they will struggle to revert back to normal life after lockdown, with only 37 per cent saying they would not miss anything about lockdown.

According to a YouGov poll, 49 per cent say they will find it hard to “adjust back to how life was before March 2020,” with only 42 per cent saying they would find it “easy.”

56 per cent of women say they will find it difficult and the same figure applies to 18-24 year olds who also said they would struggle compared to just one third would said they would find it easy.

Only 5 per cent say they would find it hard to stop worrying about catching COVID-19, while more than a third say they fear “being out in public with other people/crowds.”

“A separate YouGov poll, also published on Thursday, revealed what Britons would miss about the lockdown, including there being “less traffic and fewer planes, and cleaner air and streets” (11 per cent), “time with family, partner, pets and/or bubble” (eight per cent), and “having more time/A slower or simpler life” (seven per cent),” reports Breitbart.

The results of the survey follow a similar poll conducted by the London Times which found that a “significant proportion” of Brits enjoyed lockdown.

It would essentially be a system of slavery where, through consumption and entertainment, the slaves would love their servitudes,” he also warned.

Advisors to the government in the UK, which has mostly been under varying degrees of lockdowns for more than a year now and is supposed to be emerging from the last of the restrictions, have said that there may have to be further lockdowns in order to stop new coronavirus variants.

The London Independent reports:

…a top scientist advising the government has said local restrictions may need to be reintroduced if surge testing fails to halt the spread of the South African Covid variant.

Professor John Edmunds, an epidemiologist at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, told ITV’s Peston show that if mass testing events, such as those currently underway in Southwark and Barnet in London, “don’t work that well … then it’s possible we’ll have to impose some sort of local restrictions back in place and nobody wants to do it”.

A similar report in the Telegraph notes that lockdowns may have to be localised to different streets to prevent outbreaks of new variants.

Dr Jeffrey Barrett, director of the Covid-19 Genomics Initiative at the Wellcome Sanger Institute told the BBC that shutting down individual streets “certainly could” help prevent the spread of the virus “because one of the trickiest parts of this virus overall is, of course, some individuals who are infected don’t have symptoms and so they can transmit.”

“Trying to use interventions that might stop asymptomatic transmission may well be an important part of keeping outbreaks of these new variants to be as absolutely small as possible,” Barrett added.

He also suggested that there is a “chance” new variants will be “less well neutralised” by vaccines, adding that it is “restrictions” that have helped contain outbreaks.

That rhetoric echos what Prime Minister Boris Johnson said earlier this week when he stated that it is lockdowns, rather than vaccinations that have caused a reduction in cases of the virus:

Both government advisors mentioned above also advocated so called ‘surge testing’, yet as noted earlier this week, the vast majority of positive results from rapid testing are likely false:

As we have tirelessly documented, lockdowns are not an effective means of preventing the spread of any virus, and come with many other disastrous consequences.

As the UK begins to reopen, we are seeing a further enforcement of restrictions with the likes of ‘COVID marshals’ being put back onto the streets to report people to the police for not properly social distancing.

It appears to be becoming clearer that this nightmare is never going to end.

A prominent Danish medical official collapsed during a press conference in which she announced the government’s indefinite suspension of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID vaccine.

Tanja Erichsen, head of the Danish Medicines Agency, was delivering the news alongside Health and Medicines Authority Director Søren Brostrøm on Thursday when she suddenly fainted.

"Our head of pharmacovigilance, Tanja Erichsen, fainted during today's press conference. She is conscious again and is okay under the circumstances, but for safety's sake she took a trip by ambulance to the emergency room to be checked," the Danish Medicines Agency wrote in an update on Twitter.

Prior to the incident, Erichsen and Brostrøm confirmed the AstraZeneca vaccine will no longer be administered in Denmark due to concerns about side effects, specifically dangerous blood clots potentially linked to the injection.

Erichsen stressed that she believes the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks, but not necessarily for Danes.

Instead, Denmark is reportedly considering 'sharing' their AstraZeneca supply with 'poorer' countries.

"I spoke with Søren Brostrøm yesterday, and I understand that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready or is already looking at the possibilities of sharing the AstraZeneca vaccine with poor countries," said Hans Kluge, European head of the World Health Organization.

While many European countries have temporarily halted AstraZeneca's COVID injections in recent weeks, Denmark is the first country to fully remove it from its vaccine program.

UK council authorities are putting more ‘COVID marshals’ onto the streets to report people to the police for not properly social distancing.

After the government lifted some lockdown restrictions on Monday, bars and restaurants were allowed to open outside.

This prompted the media to once again hysterically point to footage of people daring to enjoy themselves in order to whip up another contrived panic over a ‘4th wave’ of the virus returning despite Britain having one of the lowest case rates in the world amongst major countries.

Local government immediately responded by vowing to put more state spies on the streets.

“Councils across England have boosted the number of Covid-19 marshals patrolling city centres after scenes of overcrowding since outdoor drinking and dining resumed on Monday,” reports the Times.

The marshals have no enforcement power, so their role almost entirely depends on lecturing people about their behavior and then snitching on them to police if they fail to comply.

As we previously highlighted, when the second lockdown was implemented in the UK last autumn, COVID marshals were dispatched to ensure pubs and clubs were closed.

Photographs from the patrols showed marshals peering into windows and letterboxes to ensure gatherings or private parties were not taking place.

Images from London on Monday also showed masked security guards with attack dogs waiting to deal with any trouble caused by overcrowding as shops re-opened.

This is all apparently part of the process of regaining our freedom!

As the people of England and Wales celebrate the end - or at least the beginning of the end - of the COVID restrictions that have stifled the economy for more than a year, new data from the Office of National Statistics have illustrated a startling conclusion: nearly 25% of registered COVID-19 deaths actually aren't being killed by the virus, something that we have been discussing here at Zero Hedge since we first pointed out that motorcycle accident deaths were being labeled "COVID deaths" in Florida.

This time, it's not just accident deaths, but deaths of all kinds, that have been unduly counted in Britain's COVID death numbers. As the Daily Mail put it, many of the coronavirus deaths which are registered are now people who have died "with" the disease rather than "from" an infection. Dying "with" COVID can land somebody's death counted in the official data even if COVID isn't listed as the primary cause of death on their death certificate.

According to the numbers, 23% of Britons who died in the outbreak died "with COVID" rather than from COVID, as the Daily Mail shows in [this chart]. For the record, 23% of the current death toll of 127,123 would be roughly 30K deaths misleadingly labeled.

In the wake of the data's release, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has refused to expedite England's reopening, and warned that cases will rise in the coming weeks as thousands of Britons rush to spend their cash now that pubs and indoor dining have reopened (which happened Monday, as we reported).

The ONS also shared data putting COVID deaths within the context of all deaths recorded in the UK.

While COVID deaths and cases have rebounded across Europe, the UK has been a notable exception, with just 23 deaths reported yesterday, according to data from the UK's COVID dashboard. All together, coronavirus deaths now make up just 4.9% of deaths registered in England and Wales compared with 45% in mid-January.

In reality, the UK has seen fewer than 30 deaths per day from COVID since the beginning of April, despite the government's claims that daily deaths have been as high as 60. Part of this is due to the rush to release data to the public, as numbers in the daily update often actually died days or weeks earlier, and this delay isn't explained to the public.

An environmental activist is petitioning her local council to remove cheese and other dairy products from the school menu because she claims the food items are “racist.”

Yes, really.

Extinction rebellion member Alison Plaumer told local officials at a Brighton and Hove City Council meeting that dairy is racist because black people are more likely to be lactose intolerant.

“Arguably, there is a racist element to serving dairy too much because 65 per cent of the world’s population are lactose intolerant, many from the BAME (black, Asian and minority ethnic) community,” said Plaumer.

She is demanding plant-based only food be introduced at all state run schools for two days a week and for council events to be completely plant-based once the pandemic is finished.

Plaumer launched the campaign despite the fact that children already have a vegan option every day.

“If people think food is racist then they are not qualified to be near a school,” said one respondent in reaction to the story.

The drinking of milk to symbolize white supremacy is a years old 4chan invented meme that was created to troll racism-obsessed leftists.

Now they’re seriously talking about it as a social justice cause in government meetings.
