Teacher Stabbed to Death by Student at School in France

A teenage suspect was arrested for stabbing a female teacher to death at a school in France this week, according to reports.

The horrifying incident unfolded at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a port town in the Basque region.

A 16-year-old male pupil pulled a 4-inch knife from his bag during a Spanish class at Saint Thomas d'Aquin Catholic high school, blocked the door, and allegedly stabbed the 53-year-old instructor in the sternum, authorities say.

"Everything was going normally until a student planted a large knife in the chest of the Spanish teacher," a witness told France Bleu.

"When I looked up, he was already standing with the knife. I didn't really see him get up, but when he stuck the knife he was very calm."

The suspect then took refuge in an adjoining room as students fled in panic and the school was locked down.

Another teacher managed to disarm the suspect and detain him until authorities arrived.

The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her injuries.

"According to our information, he is unknown to justice and reportedly declared to be 'possessed' and even to have 'heard voices' telling him to kill his teacher," Le Parisien reports.

A murder investigation is ongoing.

“It's a shock. A tragedy that echoes the assassination of Samuel Paty and other events of violence against teachers that ended less tragically, we need to have more information," said Stéphane Crochet, secretary general of the Unsa Teachers' Union.

Last month, a student was knifed at a French high school by an African 'refugee,' and a teacher was stabbed to death in Germany by a student with a 'migration background.'
