Thief Rams Car Into Luxury Shop, Jumps Into Paris River to Escape Police

A suspect threw himself into the Seine River in an attempt to escape French police after smashing a car through a storefront and stealing designer goods this week, according to reports.

The wild incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday in the 1st arrondissement of Paris.

A man crashed a Citroën vehicle through the front doors of a Valentino shop selling products from the Italian luxury fashion house of the same name, Le Figaro reports.

The suspect reportedly stole high-priced handbags and jewelry before fleeing in his car.

During a police pursuit, the suspect crashed again before abandoning the Citroën and jumping into the Seine.

“What are you going to do? You won't get me!" he reportedly yelled at police before becoming fatigued in the currents.

Officers with a river brigade pulled him out of the water and arrested him.

He was identified as Massinissa F., a 24-year-old male who lives in Vitry-sur-Seine.

"Officials note that the glass front doors were destroyed and the thief took about 150 luxury bags with an average value of 700 euros and jewelry," Le Parisien reports.

The stolen items were recovered from the suspect's vehicle.
