British journalist Katie Hopkins called out European governments for participating in mass-scale migrant trafficking during a conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) held in Warsaw.
Ms. Hopkins, who has extensively investigated the inner workings of the on-going migration crisis, asserted that NGO 'rescue' boats function as a "ferry service" for migrants hoping to travel from Africa to Europe, and governments which facilitate aid for these operations are complicit in a brutal and lucrative human trafficking scheme.
The real victims of the NGO rescue boats across the Med are the trafficked people, vomited onto the shores of Spain. The governments of France, Spain & Germany are complicit in this trade. Stop the boats pic.twitter.com/FvBtCD74MM— Katie Hopkins (@KTHopkins) September 20, 2018
"I've spent a great deal of time in ports in southern Italy and Sicily, observing first-hand the highly sophisticated operations of the NGO rescue boats across the Med and those profiting from their cargo of humans," Hopkins said. "I've also spent time working the streets of southern Italy to understand their real victims, particularly women trafficked into prostitution now working the side of the hot tarmac in Europe."
"And to be clear: NGO rescue boats do not involve a 'frantic search for people' -- the boats have scheduled departure times and agreed collection points in a drop-off zone off the coast of Libya. In effect, they are a ferry service across the Mediterranean and part of the business model of the trafficker."
Hopkins recognized the efforts and new policies being implemented by Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini and recommended other nations follow his lead by ceasing cooperation with such NGOs, closing their ports to NGO ships and impounding the vessels when appropriate.
"By accepting the human cargo of these boats, governments like Britain, Spain, Germany, France, Portugal are, by extension, part of the problem," she said, directing her final comments at representatives of those countries. "Stop being part of the problem, and be part of the solution."
According to a statement released ahead of the OSCE conference, billed as the "Human Dimension Implementation Meeting 2018," speakers were asked to select from three topics: “Freedom of the Media,” “Rights of Migrants,” or “Combating Racism, Xenophobia, Intolerance and Discrimination”
