A suspect brandishing a large knife was shot and wounded by police in France this week, according to reports.
The harrowing incident unfolded at around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, a commune in the suburbs of Paris.
Authorities were alerted about a man suffering a "nervous crisis" who was planning to attack innocent victims, a source told local media.
"The Police Nationale were alerted for threatening behavior by an armed individual in the northern district and went to the spot," Villeneuve-Saint-Georges officials explained on Twitter.
Officers arrived and surrounded the suspect, who ignored orders to drop the blade.
An ensuing standoff was captured in footage shot by multiple witnesses and published on social media.
